I really like Minecraft - and some of the bugs are amusing:

Looks like new DLC for Fallout: New Vegas is coming, and "Dead Money" will be on PS3 and Steam soon - February 22nd. Wired has the story:
Bethesda will launch new downloadable expansions for Fallout: New Vegas in the coming months, the publisher said Friday on its official blog. It will launch the packs simultaneously for Xbox360, PC and PlayStation 3. These three packs are in addition to the first New Vegas downloadable expansion, Dead Money, which will be available for PS3 and Steam on February 22. Xbox 360 owners can already purchase the DLC.
That's excellent news!

We'll be posting a new edition of "That Podcast" this week - Michael Fincher and I will be doing another round on "Dead Money" now that I've successfully gotten through it.
I have friends who have done some very cool things in Minecraft, but I was pretty pleased with how this room came out. I mostly dug stuff up while my daughter made the interior look nice:

I posted on the value of high sneak in Fallout: New Vegas a bit ago, but wow - I brought my level 23 character with high sneak and unarmed into Dead Money this weekend, and it was so much easier to make progress. I got into the Sierra Madre just before I had to leave for the weekend, but now I'll have to give Fallout 3 a shot with high sneak.

It's not that I expect wifi at 30,000 feet to be awesome - but why does Steam refuse to log me in so often, requiring me to delete ClientRegistry.blob, and force this on me:
Sigh...

I wanted to give some of the Fallout 3 After I disabled the Windows Live hookup, the game ran, and it ran well. So next time I decide to sit down with it, I can actually download some of the more interesting looking mods and see how they look. |
Ultimately, the biggest improvement in game play came from the upgrade I did to memory on the MBP - from 4 gb to 8gb. After that, I was able to give the Windows VM 4gb instead of 2, and that made a huge difference. The other thing that seems to help is making sure to buy games that have been out long enough for all the really dedicated gamers to have found or created solutions to common problems :)
I've been doing (yet another) playthrough of "Fallout: New Vegas", which was inspired by my first (basically failed) crack at the "Dead Money" DLC. I went in with a level 30 character, but I had the wrong skills for the DLC:
I was able to get through the Villas with difficulty - my character had high science, speech, guns, and lockpick - none of which were terribly useful out there. There are virtually no guns or energy weapons (the HoloRifle has very little ammo available), so you really, really need to go with unarmed or melee. So.... I started over.
That's been something of a revelation for me. So many encounters have been so much easier with high sneak - even with mediocre weapon skills, I can get close enough to line up and kill without ever using VATS. I expect that I'll get through the DLC much better this time (although I'll have to wait for the PC edition or get my work schedule to support some remote work - no XBox in the hotel). Even with that, it's been a lot of fun to play this way - it's almost like a new game.
