Never mind the swirling culture war aspects of the Duck Dynasty kerfuffle - there's a far simpler failure here, and it's of PR. Exactly which people at A&E were surprised by the GQ interview? Who wasn't smart enough to imagine what kinds of questions GQ would ask (pageviews!), and what kind of answers Phil would have for them? When you decide to make money off of what you see as the foilbles of people who aren't like you, you have to understand the full package you are paying for.

I haven't used Windows 8 yet, but I have read many, many of the pundits talking about it. This may be the funniest paragraph I've read on it yet:
I think it’s pretty clear that the Windows 8 bet is failing. Windows 8 is being pre-installed on a lot of PCs, but that’s because Microsoft is pushing it through the OEMs. Microsoft could ship a hamster wrapped in duct tape, label it Windows, and a lot of OEMs would bundle it.
The rest of the post is good too - albeit more serious :)

I guess writing about Smalltalk, gaming, and copyright issues is unsafe for kids in the UK. WItness the glorious results of the new censorship regime on this website:

And people wonder why I periodically say "if the answer was government, the question was stupid"

I don't much care for SEO tactics, but hey - it's a matter of finding holes in an algorithm. Which is why I find smackdowns of this sort even worse:
Google hit back hard today after it learned lyrics site Rap Genius had been using dubious SEO tricks to attain top spots in search results. Now RapGenius.com doesn’t appear on the first page of results for a search of “Rap Genius,” and popular queries like “Jay-Z Holy Grail Lyrics” don’t bring up the startup like they used to.
Gosh forbid they figure out how to plug the hole; better to just pull out the howitzer and let fly....
